Music magazine evaluation

The ways that my music magazine uses forms and conventions of real music magazines is the body language. In real magazines, the cover star is always posing and always has eye contact with the audience. The use of colour also makes it similar to real ones because most magazines do not use more than four colours and always use dark, bold fonts to grab the audience’s attention. Another form of real music magazines is the promotional offer which is the best technique to use to draw attention and encourages customers to buy the next issue. My music magazine cover represents certain social groups because of the choice of of the cover stars. The cover has two teenagers of both genders which, instantly, shows that this magazine is for teens.

Their body language also represents certain social groups as they are both posingin two different positions. The female has quite a "bad girl" pose with a cheeky smile on her face and the malealso has a "bad boy" serious look with his hands on his face. This would attract the younger audience because most youth of today like hats and "bad boy/girl" poses. They have eye contact with the audience looking cool and confident which is good because audiences like to see confident people who are not shy of the camera.

The clothes that they are wearing does not really represent certain social groups because, nowadays, young and middle aged people dress quite similar so there's nothing different about it. However, the cap on the male's head is quite significant-not in a way that it is unusual but in a way that the cap is what shows who the target audience is-because caps are very popular in boys' fashion, especially in young males' fashion.

I think the location plays a big part in representing the young audience as you can tell by the stair bannisters that theya re in a large building, which makes it quite obvious that they are in a school or college.

The audience for my music magazine cover are both males and females aged from 16 and over.I chose this type of audience because as a teenager myself,I have good understanding of what coverlines attract us.

I attracted the audience by placing the masthead at the top in a large bold font so it can be seen from quite far and can also be seen if it is overlapped on a shelf. The banner placed right at the bottom of the cover cannot easily be seen if it is placed on a shelf, however,I still put it at the bottom as on most real music magazines,it is placed at the top of the masthead so it is quite common. The main cover line is in a big bold font as it is the main story and will attract the target audience more and make them want to buy it.Also,it is an exclusive interview which means that these artists are being interviewed for the first time and everyone likes to be the first to know latest gossip so, the bigger and bolder the writing, the more magazines that are sold. The other cover lines are in a smaller lighter coloured font because they are not as appealing and important to them.I have used exclamation marks on the cover lines to encourage the audience to feel excited about what they are about to read.I have also placed a graphic to highlight the promo offer to entice buyers. In a real music magzine, this is a very popular of getting way of getting people to buy as the produce of the magazine is giving a special offer which means that the audience are getting more than they bargained for.The price has been placed at the bottom so if it is on a shelf, then the consumers will pay attention to the contents first and when they see how interesting the contents are, they would be willing to pay a high price.

When I first started making this magazine cover,I was quite confused as I never used photoshop before and it was all quite new to me.I didnt need any help at all.I was shown the basic tools by my teacher and knew what to do straightaway.Photoshop is not that hard to use because the icons of each technique is shown and you can do all sorts of amazing effects. If I were to make another front cover,I think the thing that I would do differently is plan a lot more. For this magazine that I have created,I did plan quite abit, however,it didnt quite work out the way I wanted it to as I missed the lesson where we all took pictures so I had to use images that were taken by other people in the class.Preferabally,I would have used the same cover stars in a different background. Also,I think next time,I would do a lot more research on r'n'b magazines to analyse how their ones were laid out.I am into r'n'b myself so,overall, I enjoyed producing a magazine with contents that I wanted in my favourite genre.
